This study tested a single pill that could treat hypertension and dyslipidemia in African American adults. When enrollment fell behind schedule, we were asked to implement a rescue recruitment campaign to secure 300 additional randomized subjects in 10 weeks during the winter holiday season.
We targeted 41 sites with an above-average concentration of African Americans over age 18, and deployed print advertising, direct mail, general clinical trials information brochures, and a motivational newsletter. Enrollment rose from 1.42 subjects per day to 3.88 – a 173% increase. Overall, we saved 128 days of study time and met the goal one week early.
