Our challenge was to recruit at least 700 patients between the ages of 35 and 64 over 12 weeks for a clinical research study on chronic low back pain. Participants had to be frequent users of medication for their condition, and willing to commit to seven to eight study visits over a 14-week period.
We created a recruitment effort that included newspaper, radio, direct mail, and a website. Our mix, which we carefully monitored and adjusted as necessary, resulted in 5,664 unique visitors to the study website, and 2,300 inquiries to the call center, enabling us to meet our enrollment goal a full two weeks ahead of schedule.
