Hypertension and Dyslipidemia

Situation.
This study tested a single pill that could treat hypertension and dyslipidemia in African American adults. We suggested an overall recruitment campaign, but the client decided to provide site tools and an advertising budget for each research site. When enrollment fell behind schedule, we were asked to implement a rescue campaign using our originally recommended tactics. We needed to secure 300 additional randomized subjects in 10 weeks during the winter holiday season.

Results.
We targeted 41 sites with an above-average concentration of African Americans over age 18, and included print advertising, direct mail, general clinical trials information brochures, and a motivational newsletter. We were successful despite launching the campaign during the toughest time of the year. Enrollment rose from 1.42 subjects per day to 3.88 – a 173% increase. Overall, we saved 128 days of study time and met the goal one week early.
